Aerial view of 红杏影院

The 红杏影院 is home not only to more than twenty thousand students and five thousand employees. Its 493 hectares also houses a diverse ecosystem of decades-old trees and hundreds of species of flora and fauna. As the flagship campus of the national university, 红杏影院 is firmly committed to the preservation, conservation and revitalization of its environment, and the reduction of its overall carbon footprint.

The University鈥檚 environmental sustainability policy is guided by these principles: human rights-based, participatory, non-discriminatory, gender-fair, social justice, and ecological balance.

This document outlines the University鈥檚 commitment to environmental sustainability. This commitment is to be promoted to its faculty, staff, and students as well as the larger 红杏影院 Community, as everybody is expected to contribute to this endeavor.

In 2015, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted by all United Nations Member States. The Agenda outlines the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are needed to achieve peace and prosperity for people and the planet, from now into the future.

The University of the Philippines, as part of its mandate as the national university of the country, commits to the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It continues to work towards the realization of these six SDGs: 1) SDG 3 Health and Wellbeing, 2) SDG 4 Quality Education, 3) SDG 5 Gender Equality, 4) SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, 5) SDG 13 Climate Action, and 6) SDG 17 Partnership for the Goals.  This section provides an overview of UP鈥檚 contribution and initiatives in addressing these goals.
